    The Island

Hamilton Island is one of the 74 tropical islands in the Coral Sea, between the Queensland coast and the Great Barrier Reef. It’s the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, situated 1,222 km north of Brisbane and 655 km south of Cairns.

A picturesque, self-contained destination, Hamilton Island has a commercial marina, several resorts, restaurants, bars, takeaways and sports facilities. It’s also the only island in the Great Barrier Reef with its own airport. You can fly directly from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Cairns in next to no time. If you prefer, you can take a pleasant 30 minute boat ride from Shute Harbour or sail there in your own yacht and moor in the marina.

    Do & See

In the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, Hamilton Island is one of Australia's most outstanding and desirable holiday destinations. When travelling to this beautiful island, you will be surrounded by unspoiled white beaches and an amazing coral and marine life. More than 70 percent of Hamilton Island is natural bushland, offering 20 km of scenic bushwalking trails. As home to many Australian animals and bird life, there will be plenty of fascinating flora and fauna to explore. Just make sure not to miss most photographed beach in Australia, Whitehaven Beach, with its crystal clear water and pristine silica sand. Besides exploring the wonderful nature of Hamilton Island, there are plenty of activities to do such as golf, go karts and water sports.

    Dining

When it comes to food and wine, Hamilton Island has almost as many dining options as you’d expect to find on the mainland, from gourmet pizza and tapas to a satisfying 3 course dinner after a day at the beach.

    Cafes

There are few cafes on Hamilton island, but all of them are unique. Like most facilities, they are mainly located in the marina or the resort area. Enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and indulge in a cup of coffee with a treat, or order some takeaway and have a picnic lunch in some idyllic spot.
